Muangboran is an amazing open air museum for Thai architecture, culture and art at Samut Prakan in Thailand. The supposedly largest open-air museum in the world is located about 30 km south of Bangkok city near the coast to the Gulf of Thailand. The map of ancient city replicate Thailand and is divided into 4 sections as Thailand is in same way with the regions nothern, nothereast, central and southern. To visit ancient city is a pleasure event and moves you back in the history of Thailand.
Arriving Muang Boran the Ancient city is quiet easy by BTS sky train. Take the green line (Sukhumvit) direction Kheha. At the BTS endstation Kheha it is only about 800 m to reach the museum by Taxi. After you have bought an admission ticket, you can either cross the area with a free bike or you can take a paid e-cart.
The Great Hall of Vajradhamma
Our first station was the Great Hall of Vajradhamma locates on the free zone which is the extension of Muangboran the Ancient City.
Sanphet Prasat Palace Ayutthaya
Next stop was the Sanphet Prasat Palace. It was the principal palace in the early Ayutthaya period and initially built in the reign of King Baromatrai Lokanat which was the eighth king of Ayutthaya.
Mondop of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvar (Kuan-Yin)
With our electric drive car we went to the Mondop of Bodhisattva. The two virtues that make it possible for humanity to live together in peace are kindness and justice. In Mahayana Buddhism, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara representing the spirit of compassion is the most revered and honored heavenly being in India, China, Tibet, Japan and Korea.
According to Thai cosmology, Sumeru Mountain is considered the pillar of the world as well as the center as the universe. The mountain, supported stays above the surface of the water. lt is the residence of spirits ranging from deities in heaven to devils in hell.
Pavillion of the Enlightened
Mahayana Buddhism is religion worshipped by people of different levels of ethics and spiritual value. Religious teaching and training, therefore requires appropriate strategies. The story of 500 enlightened monks of the strategies to show that people of different backgrounds, with different code of conduct, different merits could all become enlightened and reach Nirvana.
The floating market
The floating market provides an ideal rural backdrop to the daily life of the people living on the banks of the river; especially the local life in the central plain of Thailand. The community relies greatly on water transportation; rivers and canals became the most important trade routes for people along the rivers.
